ASA Basketball

ASA Basketball offers 3 seasons. The primary season is the Winter season. It is for boys and girls in grades 1st -12th grade.

The Fall season is for middle school and high school players only. It is a short season that offers a way for middle school and high school students to keep up their skils prior to school tryouts. The Spring season is open to boys and girls in 1st - 12th grade.

Leagues are broken down by division based on the skill of the players & team. Coaches of pre-formed teams must choose division when registering.

Division I - Most Competitive division with teams having above average skill level. There is a mandatory 50% play time rule that applies only in first half. Division I is not open to draft players.

Division II - Intermediate division of teams with mixed level skill players. There is a mandatory 50% play time for all players for the entire game. Division II is not open to draft players.

Division III - Designed as a developmental recreational league. There is a mandatory 50% play time for all players for the entire game. Draft players may be placed on a Division III team.

Division IV - Division is generally made up of draft players. No pre-formed teams are allowed in Division IV. If there are not enough draft teams to form this division, they will be moved to Division III. There is mandatory 50% play time for all players for the entire game.

Team Formation & Divisions

ASA Basketball welcomes pre-formed teams as well as individual registration for players not on pre-formed teams. Players are allowed to move from team-to-team each season.

Any player who is not on a "pre-formed" team or on a "returning" team will be placed in the blind draft. The blind draft will take place after player evaluations. All players in this category will be added to a team either by:

Grades 1-6: May be added to teams based on school rather than closest geographic location (within Allen).

Grades 7-12: Player evaluations prior to team formation

If a player cannot be present at the player evaluations, they will be assigned to a team by the draft facilitator. No player may be added to any team after the draft without the express consent of the basketball commissioner and the board.

Each team must have a minimum of 8 players and no more than 10 players on the roster.

Teams are grouped in divisions based on the criteria below:

Division I – The most competitive division with teams that have above average skills (no draft players allowed). There is a mandatory 50% playing time for the first half of the game.

Division II – This is an intermediate division with teams that have a mixed level skills (no draft players allowed). There is a mandatory 50% play time for players in each game.

Division III – This is a recreational/developmental league.  There is a mandatory 50% play time for players in each game.

Division IV – This division is generally made up of draft players and no pre-preformed teams. If there are not enough draft teams to form for this division teams will play in Division III. There is a mandatory 50% play time for players in each game

The Board Needs You!   The Volunteer Board is made up of volunteers, just like you. We have Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Parents that make up the Board and we're looking for a few more interested volunteers to help out. Volunteer Board Members participate in monthly board meetings, communicate often through email and take part in occasional topic specific meetings, all with the intent of continuing to grow the program.

If you are interested in finding out more about the Volunteer Board or feel that you can help make a difference in the program, please don't hesitate to reach out to one of the existing Board members to discuss further. Changes and growth happen because of the efforts by our many volunteers.  Please help join us in our continual effort to make ASA The Place Where Kids Come To Play.
