ASA COACH CERTIFICATION PROCESS As a co-sponsored organization of the City of Allen, the Allen Sports Association must offer a coach certification process to anyone in the league who is interested in coaching a sport. The following is a step-by-step process of what needs to be done prior to being approved to coach a sport in ASA. 1. All coaches, new or returning, must register online as a coach during the player registration period. The online registration link is located at the bottom of this page. There are two separate links. One is for returning coaches and the other is for new coaches. If you are a returning coach you will be directed to the login page for Sportspilot. All returning coaches should have a username and password to login to the site. If you do not have this information please click on the link that says "I do not know my username and/or password." Enter your email address and your username and password will be sent to you. If you have any trouble with this feature please contact the ASA office. By entering your username and password your online application will be automatically filled out with your current registration information. You may change any outdated information before you submit the online form. The system will require you to put in a credit card to verify that you are at least 18 years of age. There is NO CHARGE to be a coach. If you do not have a credit card you may choose the "alternate payment method" and you will still be able to successfully register online. ALL coaches will be automatically registered as "UNASSIGNED." This is because there are several steps that need to be completed before a coach is placed on the team roster. No manager or coach will be placed on a roster until these steps are completed. 2. All coaches, new and returning, must have a current coach/volunteer application and a copy of their driver’s license on file in the ASA office. The coach/volunteer application is valid for three years so it is not necessary to turn in the coach/volunteer application every season. Once the online registration has been completed, a sports specialist will contact coaches who need to turn in new applications or expired applications. Forms are available at the following link and can be faxed to the ASA office at (972) 727-9760.

All coaches are required to have attended a coach certification class provided by the Allen Sports Association. Returning coaches (coached at least one season of a sport in ASA) do not have to re-certify each year. All NEW coaches must attend an ASA coach certification class that covers the fundamentals of coaching, as required by ASA. Please keep in mind that some sports REQUIRE coach’s training for all coaches, new and returning Cheerleading coaches MUST attend additional training. Please see "calendar" link above for orientation and training dates for Fall 2008. 4. All new coaches should check the sport web pages to see if there are any further steps needed for coaching approval. (i.e. new head coaches in football must go through an interview process with the Football Board) 5. Once notified that you are approved, you can pick up your ASA coaching badge. All badges require a photo. Badges can be picked up during business hours, as well as specified extended business hours prior to the start of the season. Badges are good until December 31 of the year they were issued. A new badge is required each year. |
