Exceptions are by commissioner approval only. Players in 5th or 6th grade who are registering for the Recreational Divisions do not have to have prior play experience.

If a player in the unassigned player pool wants to play up one grade, he/she must have commissioner's approval. Coaches of pre-formed teams may allow players to play up one grade level to join the team. All teams will play at the grade division level of the oldest player on the team.

The ASA Volleyball Board must approve all pre-formed team rosters. Pre-formed team must submit a roster of no less than 6 players (with two openings). All final rosters will be required to have a minimum of 8 players. Exceptions are made by commissioner approval only.

****ALL divisions are contingent upon a minimum of 4 teams per division. The ASA Volley Board reserves the right to merge some grades in to one division if enrollment numbers justify such action. Divisions with only 4 teams will play those teams multiple times during the season.****

ALL COACHES AND PLAYERS MUST BE REGISTERED. ALL TEAMS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE ONE HEAD COACH AND ONE ASSISTANT COACH OR TEAM PARENT REGISTERED AND CERTIFIED THROUGH ASA. NO MORE THAN THREE COACHES ARE ALLOWED PER TEAM.

TEAM FORMATION:

Teams are formed by either a random draft based on school or other criteria for placement or by pre-formed teams/returning teams submitted by coaches.

PRE-FORMED TEAMS:

Coaches may "bring their own teams" (pre-formed teams) provided the head coach submitted a completed team roster (click on "roster" for the form) to the ASA office no later than 5 p.m. August 8 (all divisions). Rosters may be submitted via email to The Volleyball Commissioner Osvaldo DeLima ,Volleyball@allensports.org and copy to Sports Specialist Tim Rogers Tim.Rogers@allensports.org. Please keep in mind that a team roster is NOT an official registration for players. All players must register individually. All players will remain in the unassigned folder until the coach's roster is submitted and approved.

When registering individually for a pre-formed team, parents MUST request in the "notes" section of the registration that their child will be placed on the head coach's pre-formed team. It is the head coach's responsibility to ensure that parents register their child correctly. IF YOU ARE NOT SURE YOUR PREVIOUS TEAM IS RETURNING FOR THIS SEASON, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR COACH. PLAYERS NOT SUBMITTED ON A PRE-FORMED TEAM ROSTER BY A HEAD COACH ARE NOT GUARANTEED A SPOT ON THAT TEAM.

Rosters should consist of a minimum of 8 players and cannot exceed 10 players. Pre-formed teams MUST bring a minimum of 6 players. NO EXCEPTIONS!

Coaches will NOT be allowed to add to their rosters AFTER the set deadline (Feb 8). The only option pre-formed teams will have of adding to their rosters will be via the random draft, provided there are enough additional players available to fill roster spots.

RETURNING TEAMS:

Returning teams from last spring may remain together if the team has a head coach. The coach will need to adhere to the same guidelines above for pre-formed teams, including submitting a complete team roster. Each player must still register online during the registration period to be eligible to play. Returning players should verify with the coach and/or team that the team is returning. Players should request the returning team by team name and coach name in the "notes" section of the registration. In the event a player requests a team that is not returning, the player will be placed in the unassigned pool and will be redrafted to a new team. It is the player's responsibility to verify if a team is returning or not.

INDIVIDUAL/DRAFT POOL REGISTRATIONS:

Players wishing to be redrafted to a new team and new players should register online. Any player who is not on a "pre-formed" team roster or a "returning" team roster will be placed in the unassigned draft pool. Teams will be formed by the ASA Board using a random draft based on school or other criteria.

Any requests regarding specific player placement must be in writing to the Volleball Commissioner prior to the draft. It is also recommended that specific requests be communicated in the "notes" secton of the player registration. The ASA Volleyball Board will review any parent or player refusal to accept the coach or team to which they were assigned.

When possible, formation of teams from the unassigned pool will be based on geographical "school" area. However, we do not guarantee players will be placed on teams with other players from their schools/neighborhoods. Players are placed on teams after completion of the regular registration deadline.

The ASA Volleyball Board will review special requests. While the ASA Volleyball Board strives to honor special requests, there is no guarantee those requests will be met. If unable to honor a request, the player is considered part of the unassigned pool. Players may request to play with a sibling; however, they will be required to play at the age level of the older sibling.

**Boys who have played in leagues other than ASA and/or play at a select or club level may be required to play at a high division level than grade level. ASA Board review is required to determine the best division for the competitive play.

SUBSTITUTING PLAYERS:

Under no circumstances may teams allow players from other teams or organizations to play during regular season matches or post-season tournament matches. There are no substitutes allowed on team rosters. Only registered ASA volleyball players are allowed on the courts during practices or games.

PRACTICES:

The head coach of the team sets practices. ASA does not make any commitment to move volleyball practices set by coaches to accommodate schedule conflicts due to other sports/activities. In the event a player cannot practice on the night set by the coach, the player must notify the coach immediately. If a solution cannot be found to keep the player on the team, the player may have the option of moving to another team if an opening exists. Practices are scheduled Monday through Friday, during the evenings, at Allen ISD gyms. Practices begin the week of Sept. 8.

GAMES:

Games are scheduled on Saturdays beginning Sept. 20.
