Youth Wrestling is broken into 3 experience categories: Open, Novice and Rookie. The Rookie Division is for first year wrestlers. The Novice Division is for 2nd year wrestlers. The Open Division is for more experienced wrestlers. Rookie and Novice wrestlers can wrestle in the Open Division. Typically, the local tournaments will group the Rookie and Novice wrestlers together to have more kids to wrestle. However, Texas has separate state championships for Rookie, Novice and Open Divisions.
